Vivian was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer on January 6th 2012. She immediately started chemotherapy and along with some pain management started feeling better. At the end of March she started having severe abdominal pain. New scans revealed that tumors had spread throughout her liver and pancreas. That's where this blog picks up. Vivian passed away on April 26th, 2012.

Hard To Be Human
While we are able to illicit some basic body language responses as we talk to her or when she hears certain noises, things are fading for Vivian. She is entering the last stages of her battle with this disease. Our job has been to keep Vivian as comfortable and pain free as possible, but it is becoming increasingly difficult. We are stuck in a position where more medication may keep her more comfortable, but will quickly take more of her away. At the same time, we're not so sure it would be a bad thing if she slipped away sooner than later. It's proving difficult to be humane and human at the same time. Fortunately we have been able to be together as a family and we believe she feels our love and takes comfort in our presence.

I am sure she feels your love and my heart breaks that you all have to go through this. I was going to call today but since I can't seem to stop the tears from coming since I read this I don't think I would be coherent enough to offer any support.
ReplyDeletePlease let her know we love her.
Nancy
It is an impossible task but through Vivian's strength you will find yours to travel through on this path.
DeleteLots of love,
Katia

ReplyDeleteAs I've read this blog over the weeks I can feel the warmth and love generating from your home. Vivian has such a sense of humor and it's shown in this blog...I love that she gets after Serge. I pray daily for your family, but know that the quailty time that is being spent will go on in your hearts forever. God Bless you all. Sue Nemitz (Lincoln lunchlady)
ReplyDeleteAs a first hand observer, I have been overwhelmed by the way your family has taken care of Vivian. Vivian is a great lady, & she will know when it's time to go. She looks so pretty, she told me at the onset, that she wasn't going to lose her hair, & she meant it.
ReplyDeleteThe stained glass window is beautiful, I'm sure that really pleases her.
What a blessing her life has been to so many of us, & just looking at all the pictures shows that she really "lived!" Robyn
feel our love..... Vivian knows you are with her and that she is surrounded by love, holding her hand, finding ways to touch.... She is part of a remarkable family. Gretchen
